Yet another great video by Tim Ferriss, do watch!

“Here is my most recent keynote from the 2,000-person+ Le Web in Paris, which focused on how to catalyze a global phenomenon on a very limited budget. Topics include:

- How to sell “around the product” for more coverage.
- The three necessary types of media exposure.
- Real-world tipping points from the launch of The 4-Hour Workweek
- How to increase website conversion 80%.”

I think what they’ve done here with these milk crates is very cool and unique - wishing someone here would try it…maybe that someone should be me. >)

Driving south of Sydney

by nigel on Aug.11, 2009, under Auto, Sydney, Travel

On Sunday I took the opportunity to go for a bit of a road trip down south of Sydney to the Royal National Park. It was good to get out of the city and enjoy some winding roads and light traffic to give the car a bit of a workout. First stop was at Garie Beach and then headed down through the national park; stopping only at Stanwell Tops for a quick break; towards the destination of Scarborough Hotel for a beer before heading back to Sydney.

The views from on top of the cliffs looking down along the coastline were humbling, made me feel so small.

If you ever get the chance go check out the area I recommend it!

Tim Ferriss your love life

by nigel on Jul.29, 2009, under Love

I had to laugh when I read the description for this video, Tim Ferriss - you rock!

“This video explains how I used Elance to find teams around the world — including Jamaica, the Philippines, India, and more — that then competed to set coffee dates for me.  The result?  More than 20 dates in one weekend and a long-term girlfriend.  It’s an absurd and amusing example of just how effective personal outsourcing can be.  If you can imagine it, you can delegate it.”

XP to Windows 7? No soup for you!

by nigel on Jul.28, 2009, under Tech

An interesting note on Windows 7 - Microsoft has come out and said that there will be no supported upgrade path from Windows XP to Windows 7, instead only inviting machines already running Vista to upgrade onto 7 without a fresh install. Its a shame, but also it is a fair move on microsofts part - there never has been upgrade paths between operating systems more than a generation apart in the past - think Windows 98 to Windows Vista. In this instance however since the uptake of Vista has been so small due to the product being shunned from Business and Consumers alike, due to its many and well documented flaws, it would be adventageous of Microsoft to make an exeption in this case.

They’re coming right for us!

by nigel on Jul.28, 2009, under Tech

Are you always running into the problem of facing up to 3 bad guys with only the one stun gun? Not anymore! Tazer has just announced the Tazer X3 stun gun which includes the ability to stun up to 3 unwilling participants at once. Not only that, but the X3 can also display a “warning arc” when loaded, allowing officers to “gain voluntary compliance” and “avert use-of-force” by putting on a light show.

Super Slow Mo! 1000 frames a second

by nigel on Jul.27, 2009, under Tech

The video below is quite amazing and the detail is stunning. It has been shot with the SprintCam v3 with a setting of 1000 frames a second, which over a minute equates to a staggering 60,000 individual shots - much more in comparison to regular video shot on a consumer grade camera which is just 24fps/1440 shots a minute.

Watch this in full screen with high def setting if your bandwidth/computer can handle it - its worthy!

20 biggest car fails of all time

by nigel on May.28, 2009, under Auto, General

I just had a friend send me a link to the article here. Had to be some of the funniest reading about these obscure car makers and designs - most of which were before my time. Sadly misses out on a lot of the european car fails which might have made the list, but still quite comprehensive in my opinion. Enjoy!

Goose flying upside down

by nigel on May.20, 2009, under Animals

So this is what a goose looks like when flying upside down…the one question I know was dying to be answered! The image below was taken by wildlife photographer Brian McFarlane as the goose was battling to land in heavy winds. The contotion; as you may call it; may look painful but in the goose world it is a tried and tested way of extreme air braking, called “whiffling”.
